Course 2 - Exterior Dwelling - 2 CE credits
The Exterior Dwelling course costs $30.00 plus GST.
The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive visual overview of the typical problems found on the exterior of a residential dwelling. Upon completion of this course you will have a solid understanding of common issues and defects on such as carports, chimneys, foundations, brick, siding, stucco, flashings, garage carbon monoxide seals, garage floors, exposed wood, exterior doors, windows, soffit/fascia, eaves trough, shingles, flat-roofs, and concrete roof tile. You will also have a thorough knowledge with respect to the impact that substandard workmanship has on the exterior of a residential dwelling.

The brick and mortar deterioration in this photo is the result of an inadequate space between the brick and finished grade. The Ontario Building Code requires that the foundation extend a minimum of 150 mm above finished grade, in order to protect the brick and mortar from moisture and frost damage. This is a blatantly obvious defect that is regularly ignored by municipal building departments. The damage in this photo has occurred after only twenty years and has become a costly repair for the homeowner. |
At the end of this course is a multiple choice test. When a minimum passing grade of 75% has been obtained, a Certificate of Completion will be forwarded by email.
